What is Diabetes Insipidus?

This site does not cover diabetes insipidus but we've added this page to clear up any confusion between it and diabetes mellitus. The two diseases share the symptoms of increased urination and thirst but other than that they are unrelated.

DI is characterised by the passing of large amounts of very diluted urine. The urine is usually very pale or clear like water. This leads to excessive thirst, though the amount of fluid taken in has little baring on the amount of urine secreted.

There are four types of DI and each one has a different cause and treatment but it is beyond the scope of this site to go into that much detail.
